Bristol to be Given Extra Powers in a New Deal

Bristol leaders have welcomed a new deal bringing the city more powers and up to 1bn to spend on major projects. Bristol is one of only six cities includng Birmingham, Newcastle and Leeds to be involved in the new economic drive deal.

In exchange for the 1bn loan and the cities’ new powers, Bristol leaders must promise to bring down youth unemployment and speed up regeneration and economic growth.

Tim Kent, a Liberal Democrat council cabinet member believes “”This [deal] could really revolutionise our ability to be able to deliver those extra jobs for this region.”
